Tesla adds USB-C ports and wireless charging to the Model 3

Business

According to Drive Tesla Canada and Electrek, from June 4, Tesla will add USB-C ports and wireless charging to the inside of the very latest Model 3 cars.

Nowadays all phones use USB-C to charge, most phones also have wireless charging functions. So it makes sense that Tesla will add more modern charging features to the inside of their cars.

A user on the Tesla Motors Club forum saw that the new charging functions are now standard in all Tesla Model 3 cars (made from June 4). We sent a message to the car company for confirmation, but Tesla did not respond.

Previously in Y and China
It is not the first time that Tesla added USB-C ports to their cars, in March they already added the ports to the Tesla Model Y. In China, they also had the USB-C functions in their Model 3 cars.

No worries
If you have purchased a Tesla Model 3 without a wireless charging function, you don’t have to get angry with yourself, Tesla happily sells a ‘Wireless Phone Charger’ ($ 125) in their website to install in your car yourself. A bargain.

Coronavirus
It is not yet known whether Tesla will also add USB-C ports and wireless charging to their other cars. It is a smart way to acquire more customers after the financial blow that caused the Coronavirus.

A few weeks ago, the company also made almost all their cars a lot cheaper to get more buyers.
