Probiotics Are Quite Useless, Says Study

Health

Probiotics is a term used to refer to good bacteria, which can keep packed foods healthy to eat. They have been used by various manufacturers and distributors for a long period of time. However, a recent research done by a group of Israeli scientists have something contrary to propose. This research has analyzed overall impact of the consumption of probiotics. Contrary to the common idea that consumption of probiotics has a positive impact on human gut, the research has proven otherwise. The scientists say that consumption of probiotics has no noticeable impact on the health of human body.

The research was based on the voluntary consumption of probiotics by 25 people. The bacteria were given to these 25 volunteers during a period of one month. Changes in the body were examined as well. According to the analysis of the body changes, the probiotics had no impact inside the human body. As a part of the study, the team had taken samples from intestines of all the volunteers. The main objective was to decide whether the good bacteria were able to colonize in the area of gut and do something good for the body. As per the results, however, most of the probiotics failed to do that.

Most of the good bacteria had entered the body via mouth and exited as a part of feces. Even the bacteria that managed to stay in the body were impacted by the microbes already present inside human body. The study basically means that probiotics is not the right solution for every person out there. Instead, the team believes, the probiotics should be optimized for each individual, if it is to enhance the effectiveness of guts. It also brings to the light that probiotics is also removed if a person consumes antibiotic, meaning that the antibiotic destroys both the good and bad bacteria in the body.
